THEME: BREAKING BARRIERS, BUILDING BRIDGES: FROM PREVENTION TO VIRAL SUPPRESSION.
Health Options for Young Men on HIV/AIDS and STIs (HOYMAS) is organizing the MSM/MSW HIV/AIDS Champions to be held in Nairobi on 25th September 2018.
This time, HOYMAS HIV/AIDS Champions’ Day is highlighting the need of community engagement in achieving the 95.95.95 target for 2020 and to end AIDS by 2030 through massive advocacy for PrEP and viral load uptake and suppression as a means of combination prevention among the key populations. It will also be a day to celebrate the genuine partnerships we have made with all stakeholders interested in seeing a stigma and AIDS free generation as is our mandate and core objective.
The event will provide a platform for up to 2,000 participants to exchange best practices, prevention and treatment advocacy strategies and ideas that advance the overall goal of HIV/AIDS free generation and especially among the MSW/MSM community as well highlight the successes of structural interventions as a means of epidemic control and management.
Key to this event is offering Health Testing Services (HTS) and prevention information among our cohorts so they can act as PrEP ambassadors within their cohorts and offering at least 300 individuals on PrEP and starting all positive on ART, other prevention commodities and Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH) services on the same day.
The event will also include networking opportunities among peers and skill building sessions. Facilitation will be done through a couple of activities such as skits, poems, role-plays, experience sharing, fashion show, dance competition, red-ribbon award, including recognition of outstanding partnerships.
The end of the day’s event will have passed several Information Education and Communication materials and activities to all participants including:
o Combination prevention information including PrEP, condoms and lubricants, and availability of these commodities at
o Prevention and outreach work including Safer sex practices and information o Update on paralegal and advocacy work
o Success stories on viral load management including experience sharing from those who have achieved undetectable viral load.
o Availability of free clinical services at HOYMAS clinic
o Availability of HIV treatment (ARVs, PEP, adherence counselling) services at the HOYMAS clinic. o HTS services.
o STI screening and treatment and PrEP administration o Hepatitis screening and vaccination
o Viral load testing and referrals.
