OUR PROGRAMS

  • HOYMAS outreach team is comprised of 40  peer educators and 5 outreach workers .Their key role is to  conduct  peer to peer outreaches  and referrals as well as condom and lube distribution at hotspots
  • We conduct monthly in-reach where PE train  and refer clients for services  at  our clinic
  • HOYMAS runs a “peer Navigation” program aimed at facilitating linkage of clients to clinical services in public healthcare facilities. So far have two peer Navigators one at Mama Lucy Kibaki referral hospital and another one Casino STC
  • HOYMAS provides for the dietary needs of its members through provision of a weekly dietary supplement and food materials
  • The food supplement is meant to boost the health of PLHWAs by providing nutritious food as most  of them require proper nutrition to enhance adherence and accelerate recovery.
  • Partnering with other organizations, we conduct awareness campaigns for MSW living positively focusing on treatment literacy and adherence.
  • These are closed groups that are managed by a trained peer leader.
  • The major goal of the Encounter Groups is to address challenges in adherence to ART including mental health
  • So far a number of community members have reported undetectable Viral load
  • Working with organizations such as SWOP Clinics, University of Manitoba, Vu University -Amsterdam, NASCOP, we regularly conduct research on MSW/MSM in Nairobi and in Kenya to determine data and establish issues /characteristics of MSM/MSW in Kenya.
  • Ongoing research projects include South to South Study- Mental Health Survey which is “Audio Computer Assisted survey interview” ACASI,Economic Empowerment and political positioning of SWs in Kenya done in collaboration with Vu University Amsterdam, IBBA a Pilot study done in collaboration with  the University of Manitoba, Prep Demonstration study  with LVCT
  • We have a website which is  updated often with relevant content e.g. news ,projects, and events, Facebook and twitter
  • HOYMAS has partnered with leading news agency, Internews, Denis Nzioka news agency to document activities, projects and events and also violations
  • We also do media advocacy e.g. Muffled Killer (KTN), Internews, The Star all on MSW
  • We provide HBC Services for our members where host those are ill and require Nutritional support and care, those who are sick or under medication are visited for support.
  • To date we have rescued more than 250 patients, Some are victims of violence , HIV+ Patients suffering from an opportunistic infection like TB, pneumonia etc.
  • Others suffer from complicated STIs like anal warts which require surgical procedures and nursing.
  • HOYMAS paralegal team is made up of one Advocacy officer and four paralegals on full commitment and at hand to handle cases
  • We work with police to address cases of human rights violation
  • We conduct a quarterly meeting with the police to sensitize them on SW and LGBT issues, local community sensitization etc.
  • We engage actively in various activism, e.g. street protest; marches during March3, Dec 17th World AIDS Day, IDAHO etc.
  • We also petition stakeholders on sex work e.g. NCC, Government, Ministries, Judiciary
  • HOYMAS is committed to supporting male sex workers to acquire life skills, education, and vocational skills without encouraging them or forcing them to abandon sex work.
  • HOYMAS provides business and Micro-Finance skills to Male sex workers. The training has been focusing on: financial literacy & management, business development skills, Savings, and loans acquisition processes.
  • This enables the MSWs/MSM make informed choices about their lives.
  • By obtaining income from other activities Sex workers put them in a position whereby they are able to reduce sexual partners and negotiate safer sex practices, reducing their HIV/STIs risk and vulnerability.
  • Majority are now fully housed and ran small scale businesses
  • The savings and credit scheme ensures that they remain so by offering a financial loan with a fair interest when any of the members need it.
  • Hoymas runs a Sacco as a sustainability plan  as well as members opportunity for saving and economic empowerment initiative
  • It’s through the Econ Empowerment program that enabled  HOYMAS to acquire a TAXI for it social enterprise programs
